How do I change the length of my Snapchat story?

How do I change the length of my Snapchat story?

Snapchat stories allow users to share photos and videos that disappear after 24 hours. By default, each Snapchat story post can be up to 10 seconds long. However, there are a few tricks you can use to extend the length of your Snaps beyond 10 seconds.

Use Multi-Snap

The easiest way to make your Snapchat stories longer is to use Multi-Snap. To create a Multi-Snap:

  1. Record your first Snap, up to 10 seconds long.
  2. At the bottom left, tap the + icon to record another Snap.
  3. Record your second Snap, up to 10 seconds long.
  4. Repeat steps 2-3 until you’ve recorded all the Snaps you want for your story.
  5. Tap the check mark icon to combine all your Snaps into one longer Multi-Snap.

With Multi-Snap, you can combine up to 6 Snaps for a maximum Snapchat story length of 60 seconds. Keep in mind that your friends will have to tap through each Snap individually though, so shorter Multi-Snaps are usually better.

Use Hands-Free Camera

Another way to extend your Snapchat stories is to use the hands-free camera mode. To activate this:

  1. Open the Snapchat camera.
  2. Tap and hold the capture button to enter hands-free mode.
  3. Record up to 60 seconds of video by continuing to hold the button.

This allows you to record longer videos without having to tap the capture button repeatedly. You can then post the full 60 second video to your Snapchat story.

Import from Camera Roll

You can also add longer videos to your Snapchat story by importing videos from your camera roll:

  1. Tap the + icon in the Snapchat camera.
  2. Select “Import video” and choose a video from your camera roll.
  3. Trim the video if needed.
  4. Add filters, text or stickers as desired.
  5. Post the edited video to your story.

Videos imported from your camera roll can be up to 3 minutes long. This allows you to upload pre-recorded videos that are much longer than 10 seconds.

Use Looping Video

Looping videos can also extend the length of your Snapchat stories:

  1. Record a video up to 10 seconds long.
  2. Tap the looping icon (a curved arrow) at the top.
  3. Select how long you want the video to loop for, up to 60 seconds.
  4. Post the looping video to your Snapchat story.

This will create a seamlessly looping video that repeats for up to 60 seconds. Your friends will see the short video clip looping continuously when they view your story.

Stitch Videos Together

With Snapchat’s Stitch tool, you can combine multiple videos together into one longer story post:

  1. Record your first video, up to 10 seconds.
  2. Tap the Stitch icon at the bottom (two linked circles).
  3. Record your next video segment, up to 10 seconds.
  4. Repeat to add more videos for stitching.
  5. Rearrange the segments if needed.
  6. Post the stitched video to your story.

Stitched videos can include up to 25 segments, allowing you to create Snapchat stories up to 250 seconds (over 4 minutes) long. You can mix and match videos you record on the spot with videos from your camera roll too.

Save to Memories

An additional option is to save longer videos to Snapchat Memories, then post them to your story from there:

  1. Record or import a video that’s up to 60 seconds long.
  2. Tap “Save” and add it to your Snapchat Memories.
  3. Go to Memories and select the video.
  4. Tap “Share to Story” to add it your Snapchat story.

This lets you upload videos up to 60 seconds long. You can also save Multi-Snaps, looping videos, and stitched videos to Memories before sharing to story.

Use My Story Extensions

Some apps have My Story Extensions that let you share longer videos to Snapchat. For example:

  • GoPro – Share GoPro videos up to 5 minutes long.
  • Adobe Premiere Rush – Export edited videos up to 5 minutes long.
  • Splice – Share edited videos up to 60 seconds long.

Check the App Store to see if any of the apps you use include this feature to add lengthier videos to your Snapchat story.

Link to YouTube or Other Sites

If you want to share a much longer video, you can post a Snap containing a link or thumbnail preview that opens the full video on YouTube or another site:

  1. Upload your long-form video to YouTube.
  2. Copy the YouTube link or use a thumbnail screenshot.
  3. Paste the link on a Snapchat caption sticker or add the thumbnail.
  4. Post the Snap containing the external video link to your story.

This lets viewers swipe up on your Snap to open and watch the full-length video. The link will be clickable for both iOS and Android users.

Conclusion

While Snapchat stories are capped at 10 seconds by default, there are many creative ways to share longer videos. Multi-Snap, hands-free mode, importing from camera roll, looping, stitching, saving to Memories, third-party apps, and linking out are all options to extend your Snapchat stories beyond the usual 10-second limit.

Using a combination of these tricks and tools, you can share engaging Snapchat stories up to 5 minutes long. Just keep in mind shorter is usually better when it comes to holding your audience’s attention!
