Snapchat friends not showing up on list

If you notice some of your Snapchat friends are not showing up on your friends list, there are a few possible reasons for this. The main reasons are that either you or your friend removed each other, your friend blocked you, your friend changed their username, your connection is having issues, or there’s a glitch in the app.

You or Your Friend Removed Each Other

The most common reason friends disappear from your Snapchat list is because either you removed them as a friend or they removed you. Removing a friend is easy to do – just press and hold on their name in your friends list and select “Remove Friend.” There is no notification when you remove someone or get removed, so it can happen without you realizing.

If you suspect you may have removed a friend by accident, you can try searching for their username and adding them back. If you can’t find them, it’s likely they were the one who removed you.

Your Friend Blocked You

Another possibility for disappearing friends is that you’ve been blocked. When someone blocks you on Snapchat, you get completely removed from their friends list and they also disappear from your list. You won’t be notified if you’ve been blocked.

Some signs that you may have been blocked include not being able to view your friend’s Story or send them Snaps. Their Bitmoji or score will also disappear from your friends list. Unfortunately the only way to know for sure if you’ve been blocked is to ask the friend directly from another platform.

Your Friend Changed Their Username

If a friend changes their Snapchat username, they will also disappear from your friends list. This is because your friend list is connected to specific usernames. When the username changes, Snapchat no longer recognizes that person on your list.

To find friends who have changed their usernames, go to your Snapchat settings and tap “My Friends.” Here you can search friends by name rather than username. If you find the friend under a different username, just add them back to your friends list.

Connection Issues

In some cases, Snapchat glitches or connection problems could cause friends to not show up properly. Things like poor internet connection, having a VPN enabled, or app bugs can sometimes mess with your friends list display.

Try force quitting the Snapchat app and logging back in to refresh your friends list. Also make sure you have a stable internet connection. Switching wifi networks or disabling a VPN connection can help with connectivity issues that may impact your friends list loading correctly.

Glitches in the App

Even when there are no clear connection problems, Snapchat bugs are known to occasionally make friends disappear from the app. The friends list is prone to glitching and this can happen randomly without any action from you or your friends.

As with other technical issues, try restarting the Snapchat app and your phone to see if it resolves the problem. Snapchat typically rolls out fixes for bugs that affect core features like the friends list, so make sure the app is updated to the latest version as well.

How to Re-Add Friends Who Disappeared

If you confirm a friend is gone from your Snapchat friends list and want to add them back, follow these steps:

  1. Tap the Add Friends icon (person and plus symbol) on the friends screen
  2. Select “Add by Username” and type in their exact Snapchat username
  3. Send a friend request and wait for them to accept it
  4. Once they accept, the friend will re-appear in your friends list

Alternatively, you can search for them through “My Friends” and add them if you find them under a different name.

Prevent Friends from Disappearing Again

To avoid friends disappearing from your Snapchat list again, keep these tips in mind:

  • Be careful when removing friends – double check before tapping “Remove Friend”
  • If you block someone, remember they will also disappear from your friends list
  • Note friends’ usernames so you can find them if they change them
  • Check for app and connection issues if friends randomly disappear
  • Frequently update Snapchat to the latest version to fix bugs

Other Snapchat Friends List Issues

In addition to friends disappearing, some other common friends list problems include:

  • Friends appear out of order: Friends are sorted by Snapchat score, so if someone passes your score, they may jump above you alphabetically.
  • Friends appear multiple times: Sometimes glitches will cause friends to show up more than once in your list.
  • Wrong names displaying: If your friend changes their display name, it won’t update in your list unless you remove and re-add them.
  • Can’t find friends in search: You can only find friends in search if you’re already connected on Snapchat or have mutual friends.

Overall, many common Snapchat friends list issues can be solved by a combination of re-adding friends, app troubleshooting, and general vigilance in managing your connections. With over 200 million daily users, glitches are bound to happen – but a little time and effort can usually get your friends list back to normal.
